Bike Shoes Buying Guide
Bike Shoes are specially designed shoes intended for biking. There are various styles intended for the different kind and intensity of biking for which they were designed. These shoes are usually worn with the basic gear of a cyclist as well. A bicycle requires that the cyclist wear a pair of shoes that would provide him protection from the impacts of the pedals against the bike itself and other road surfaces that he may encounter along the way.

Other types of specialized footwear that may be used for indoor cycling include the spin shoes and pedal shoes. The spin shoes have a single large toe, which allows for an easy transfer of force during pedal strokes. They usually have a non-marking rubber sole which makes it easy for you to walk around while wearing them. Spin shoes do not have the cleat plate on the bottom which means that the chances of dirt or debris clogging the cleats is very low. On the other hand, the clip-on cleats allow you to use the foot without any additional friction from a strap. Clip on cleats are good to use when you are training indoors.
Bike Shoes with clipless pedals are useful for competitive road cycling athletes. These are basically normal running shoes with no cleats attached. A shoe such as this is used when an individual needs to pedal quickly up a hill. A drawback of this type of bike shoe is that it does not provide any protection for the ankle and has no protection for the heel. Thus, the foot tends to roll at a faster speed.
In addition, the clip-ons attached to pedal shoes may come off during a high-velocity biking session. In this case, there is no need to change to another type of shoe. Clip-ons are especially good for competitive cyclists, as they provide good protection to the feet from objects on the bike trails. A disadvantage of clip-ons is that they are hard to remove in times when one needs to change direction quickly, and a high velocity biker may face a risk of injury if he or she attempts to take off his or her shoes mid-ride.
If you are a recreational cyclist who does not participate in organized cycling events, bike shoes with clip-ons and pedals are an appropriate option. These are lightweight, durable, and have more flexibility than other types of cycling shoes. However, pedal-less bikes may be used without pedals. This is particularly useful for kids who are not yet ready for wearing cleats.
